Yesterday on 07 Nov 2023, my wife asked me to cook food for her in dinner. I simply asked "What would you like to have?"

After a long discussion we stopped on her favorite and much awaited dish Batata Wada or you can say Bataka Wada.

I finished the office and rushed to home with the full excitement for cooking. She asked me twice that is there anything I can help you with to prepare dinner today? I said no, but still she cooked some potato till the time I reached home to avoid the extra wait and time wasting.

I reached home, got freshed up and rushed into the kitchen. Now, let's start the recipe as this story might be boring.

Here is my secret recipe for Gujarati Batata Wada or Bataka Wada Recipe:

When I am saying Gujarati Batata Wada that means there will be some sweetness in the taste. Below is the list of ingredients you will required for this recipe.

I prepared this dish in dinner for 6 People, take the quantity as per your need.

  • 7 Potato
  • 8-9 Currey leaves
  • 5-6 Green Chilli
  • 6-7 Garlic Peice 
  • 1 Medium peice Ginger
  • Coriander 10 Grams
  • Amchur Powder
  • Salt, Red Chilli Powder, Termaric Powder, Asafoetida Powder
  • Mustard Seeds
  • Jeera Seeds
  • Oil 
  • Ghee
  • Besan
  • Water

Full Step by Step Receipe for Batata Wada:

Step 1: Chopping

Take Green Chilli, Garlic, Ginger, Coriander and chop them in very small pieces and mix well, don't make a paste just chop them in small size and don't mix coriander.

Step 2 : Cook Potato

Now take the potatos wash them and cook them for 10-15 mins till it get soft.

Step 3: Tadka Time

Take a Small Tadka Pan, Add 3-4 TSP oil, 2 TSP Ghee.

Now Add Mustard Seeds than after 2 mins Jeera Seeds than after 2 mins add Asafoetida Powder, and stir.

Now add Chilli, Garlic, Ginger, Mixture and let it cook for 2 mins, than add curry leaves mix well and stir and than add turmeric powder 1/2 tsp.

Now pour that tadka into the mashed potato and mix well.

Step 4: Salt as per taste.

Now add salt (As per taste), sugar 1 tsp, 2 tsp amchur powder and Chopped Coriander.

Now mix the potato mixture well and let it sit for 5 mins.

Step 5: Batata Balls & Besan Flour Batter

Now take a oil in your hands and prepare small balls or the potato mixture. Also prepare besan batter side by side. 

I took 3 big Spoon Besan flour and added half cup water and 2 tsp hot oil and baking sode to make best besan better.

Once your besan batter is ready dip your batata balls and pour them into the hot cooking oil.

Once it becomes light golden brown take it out from the oil pan, and your are done.

Serve them with the fried green chilli, onion and besan kadhi.
